My take on Gnome on the Range: Otherworld Outlaws 1

I started Gnome on the Range the night before beginning a new job — the latest spike of stress in my life after quitting the prior job, turning 60, the holidays, and of course the ever-present shadow of the ongoing pandemic. I was immediately pulled in — to protagonist Lula Cullen, the setting, and the concept. Three chapters later I reluctantly set it aside to get some sleep, but over the next few days I returned to this enjoyable tale every chance I could until the last page.

The characters are well-defined and the action scenes — a hallmark of this author — are superbly drawn. There are plenty of twists and turns along the way, and monsters, including a few I’m quite partial to. This is the first book of a series so the main plotline isn’t resolved at the end, but the conclusion comes at a logical point and serves well to whet the appetite for what’s to come.
